It Takes a Village (or a Team)

Posted by: Bryan Waldon Pope in Untagged  on

You've heard the old adage, "It takes a village to raise a child." In this same way, it takes a team to build a business.

Whether you're a one-person operation or you have hundreds of employees, having formalized teams (marketing and otherwise) will make all the difference for your company.

What? You say you don't have the money to pay people to be on your marketing team? No problem.

Here are 5 places to find team members TODAY who won't cost you a cent, but whose input can be invaluable:

1. Clients. If you're offering superior value your clients don't want to be without, some will be willing to help you grow your company.

2. Vendors. Your vendors' success depends on your success. Mentors and team members can often be found in this arena.

3. Associates. Who do you know who runs a successful business? Approach him/her and ask for assistance in building your business. Successful people enjoy giving back and seeing others succeed.

4. Small Business Development Centers (SBDC). These organizations are charged with helping small and new businesses succeed. Check out this network and see what they have to offer. Go to www.sba.gov for more information.

5. Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). This group offers complimentary mentoring and direction for businesses of all types. For office locations and other information, go to www.score.org.

There are obviously many more places you can get help in creating your marketing team, but this will give you a good start. If you don't have a marketing team helping you, you just ran out of excuses. Start your team today.

If you have other good resources, PLEASE SHARE THEM BELOW! Thanks.

Here's to your marketing success!

How about chambers?

Depending on your local chamber, they may have programs to help. If not they can at least be a good place to find people who know what they are doing and may be able to help you.

Chambers of Commerce can be a great place to find team members, both in the chamber organization itself and in fellow members. I appreciate your comment on this and I know the BEST chamber director IN THE WORLD who plays this role: Debby Lauret, the director of the American Fork Chamber of Commerce in American Fork, Utah. She is amazing. If there are chamber people out there who would like to see how to do it right, look her up. www.afchamber.org
